Cold Spot - A patch of air that is cooler than the surrounding area. Natural cold spots can mean leaky windows and poor insulation. Unnatural cold spots could mean paranormal activity.
Continuance - The survival of the soul after death.

Demon - A demon is beleived to be a negative force of energy that can manifest itself into human type forms. When aggrivated, a demon could cause severe damage. The chances of being haunted by a demon are exremely slim.
Demonologist - A person who studies demons (see above).
Digital Thermometer - An insrument that reads air temperature and records that data.
DVR - See Digital Voice Recorder or Digital Video Recorder (below).
Digital Video Recorder - An instrument that records video or visual evidence.
Digital Voice Recorder - An instrument that records audio evidence.

EMF - Refers to Electro-Magentic Field (see below)
Electro-Magnetic Field - EMF's often emit from electrical devices and can cause various side effects, among them skin irration, fatigue, and the feeling of being watched. However, an EMF field that is free floating and has no apparent natural source could indicate possible paranormal activity. An area surrounded by jigh EMFs is referred to as a fear cage.
EMF Meter - An EMF meter detects EMF's as a number, the high the number, the stronger the EMF field
EVP - Refers to Electronic Voice Phenomena (see below)
Electronic Voice Phenomena - (EVP) A voice or sound recorded onto a tape that was not heard at the time of the recording.

Ghost - A ghost is an imprint of a person that is left in a particular place. A ghost is not a spirit, although these words are often used interchangeably.

Haunting - There are two major types of hauntings. Other hauntings are demonic hauntings, which are extremely rare.
Residual Hauntings - Residual hauntings are hauntings in which the same sounds or actions are witnessed over and over again. A residual haunting is not a ghost, more of a recording embedded in the area that keeps playing in a loop. Examples of this would be footsteps, or repeated words or phrases. Residual hauntings are common.
Intelligent Hauntings - Intelligent Hauntings are spirits that are aware of their surroundings and can communicate with the living. Whereas activity from a residual haunting can be repetitive, activity from an intelligent haunting can be erratic and varied. Some intelligent hauntings can even be playful and intentionally cause trouble much to the nuisance of the person being haunted. Intelligent hauntings occur less often than residual hauntings.

Infared Camera - An infared camera is a camera that can see into the infared realm that is beyond the range of human vision. The theory behind using the infared camera is that ghosts may be more visible beyond the range of the human eye.
Inhuman Entity - A spirit that has never been a human on earth and is often associated with a demon. An inhuman entity is stronger than a human entity and can cause much more damage. A haunting by an inhuman entity is rare and is often accompied by strange smells and other odd characteristics.
K-2 Meter - TAPS uses the K-2 meter to detect EMFs and other magnetic fields. Sometimes a spirit can communicate (or appear to communicate) through the K-2 meter.
Orb - An orb is believed to be ball of free floating energy. Orbs could indicate paranormal activity, however TAPS does not considers orbs to be conclusive evidence of a haunting. Natural orbs can often be caused by dust, smoke, and mist.
Poltergeist - The word poltergeist translates to the term noisy ghost. Many paranormal experts believe that poltergeists are not ghosts at all, but are actually caused by adolescent children (usually girls) due to emotional or physical stress (this person is called the agent). The energy from these emotions can cause unintentional bouts of PSI or TK that may make it appear as though a ghost is haunting a property.
Portable Tape Recorder - A device used to collect audio evidence during an investigation.
Spirit - A spirit is often the culprit behind an intelligent haunting. Spirits can interact with the living, unlike ghosts. In theory, a spirit is a surviving piece of a person who has died.

Thermal Imaging Camera - A camera which reads heat signatures in the air or emitting from objects. TAPS uses this camera to find odd hot or cold spots.
White Noise Simulator - A white noise simulator is a device used by ghost hunters to aid in collecting EVPs. The theory behind using a white noise simulator is that it acts as a catalyst for any odd noises or voices.
